February 1, 2010

1-26-10 Hurricane Patty's - Good start to the week!  Play to good friends there!

1-27-10  Eclipse Recording Co. - Had Walt, Barry, Frankie and my brother Ed in the studio for a song of mine, Poor-dum.  I don't know what we got out of the session, my original track was a little shaky.  Everyone else did a great job!  Thanks!

1-28-10 Oasis - Just the three of us tonight.  It was a lot of fun.  Always a good bunch that comes out to see us!

1-29-10 Oasis - Frankie was with us.  All is well.  Good job Frankie!

1-30-10 Capt Stan's - I was with my brother Ed.  We had a great gig!  It took over 1st place for the coldest weather I've ever played in.  It beat out the #1 Daytona gig with Those Guys and the #2 Pool party gig for Linda).  Still had a great time!  Thanks Ed and all the folks at Capt. Stan's.

1-31-10 Weezie's Birthday Party @ The Cove Cafe - It was Gregg, Kurt, Wayne and myself.  We made some good music.  First time with this combo, it went great!  Thanks Guys.

In closing, it was a great week, played with all my favorite  people.  Made some good music.  It doesn't get much better than this!!!!!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 27, 2010

1-19-10 Hurricane Patty's - We had a great start to the week.  Rob Peck sat in on a few tunes.  Also played one of his originals with Walt and Barry backing him up.  It was a good night.

1-21-10 Oasis - It started out packed, thinned out later on.  Still had a fun night.  Frankie was with us.  That's always a plus!  Earlier that day I was in the studio getting two tracks ready (Poor-dum and Love).  Barry, Frankie, Ed and Walt are going to put some parts on these tunes Wednesday. Thanks guys.

1/22-23/10 A1A Ale Works - We had a good weekend!  Made some new friends!  Dave Johnson and Angelo stopped by.  It's always good to see our playing in other bands buddies.

1-25-10 Hurricane Patty's - A Hackers gig.  Kurt was late getting back from New York so he couldn't make the gig.  As usual, everyone stepped up to the plate and went to work.  It was a great night!  We smoked 'em!  Looking forward to next month.  Thanks to Wayne Johnston, you were a big part of a great night.  Also, would like to thank Barry and Rob Peck for stopping by.

A band is a weird animal.  It sounds best when you stop thinking about yourself and start thinking about making the music sound better.  When that happens, there's not a better feeling in the world.  Some problems are simple to fix, that's why it's so hard to figure them out.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 18, 2010

1-12-10 Hurricane Patty's - It was good to get back to work again.  We played well.  It was a fun night!

1-13-10 Jekyll Island - Just got together with my brother Ed.  We threw around some new tunes.  One of 'em stuck  "Lets Go Fishin"!  Had a great dinner and a few brews.  A great night.  Thanks Kristen and Leigh Ann for the dinner and a place to stay.  And thanks for listening to some new original music!!!

1-14-10 Oasis - It was good to be back at The World Famous Oasis.  We had a great crowd.  Had a lot of fun.  Looking forward to tomorrow night!

1-15-10 Oasis - Another great night!  The place was packed.  A lot of our regulars are saying we are sounding better than ever.  What ever has happened, it's a good thing.  Lets keep it going.

I just attended a double funeral for Ann and Vickie Caudill.  I have been friends with them for over 40 years.  I lived in their house in my younger days.  They were mother and daughter and passed 5 days apart.  My heart goes out to the family (Tommy, Mike, Chuck, Don, Joey and Brad).  It was a beautiful service.

We're not on this earth for to long.  Think about the impact you are having on the people around you.  Ann and Vickie had nothing but love for everyone and they proved it by the way they lived.  God Bless them, I know he did.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

January 12, 2010

1-7-10  Eclipse Recording Co. - I was in the studio laying down a new song  "Poor-dum".  And then went by Barry's after the studio and listened to a new song Barry's writing about his road trip with his Dad to Mississippi.  I left Barry with another new idea that he's going to collaborate on.  It was a productive day.

1-8-10 The Cove Cafe - The trio (Walt, Barry and Dave) had a good night.  This weather is something, isn't it? Still a pretty decent crowd.  Thanks!

1-9-10 Private Party - 32° and we are set up next to a pool outside.  Sounds like a disaster, but with a couple heaters and a good attitude we had a great time!  Thanks for having us Linda.  You're the best!  Thanks Jim for sitting in!

1-11-10 NSAI Songwriters meeting (Fernandina Beach) - I had a good session with some new writers I met.  I will be joining them next month with a rewrite on my new song (Living In My Head) and see if I learned anything.

Man, sometimes I miss my home in Virginia, but when it's cold like this I remember why I just go back for gigs and visits.  I can't wait to get back to Florida weather.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

12-22-09 Hurricane Patty's - Another great Tuesday!

12-23-09 Stone Mountain - Barry, Lydia, Theresa and myself met up in Stone Mountain Georgia .  We had a great time!  Saw a little of Barry's old stomp in' grounds.  Stopped by and saw my Dad and Margie in South Carolina on the way back and picked up Will (my brother) and brought him back to St. Augustine. It sounds like both Frankie and Walt had a good Christmas also.  We are all glad that Walt's Dad is okay and Frankie is feeling better.

12-28-09 Hurricane Patty's - It was great to get back with the guys (The Hackers).  We had a great crowd!  Everyone played well.  This was a fun gig!

12-29-09 Hurricane Patty's - Another great Tuesday!  This is something I could get use to.  Thanks for sharing the evening with us everybody.

12-30-09 SeaJay's, Jekyll Island, GA - "The Seiners" We had a great crowd, a lot Picketts (Ed's family) were in town for the holidays.

1-2-10 Cove Cafe - Great night!  Great friends!  See you guys this Friday!  Gregg Chirico (The Hackers, Mr. Natural, Natural Madness) stopped by and sang a song with us.  You were great man!  After our gig, Walt, myself, Chuck and others from the Cove Cafe went to see Gregg perform.  The band sounded great (Natural Madness).  I didn't get a chance to stay long.  Wish I could have hung longer.  Thanks for the music!

1-4-10 Eclipse Recording Studio - What a trip!  I did one of my new song's "Love".  I had Spanky and Karen from Spanky and Our Gang singing with me.  I was sick as a dog, but what a great time I had.  Barry and Lydia had us over for a wonderful dinner.  Thanks everyone for making this a great day!

Hope everybody had a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

In these lean times we should stick together and help each other.  You find out who your true friends are when times get the toughest.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 21, 2009

12-15-09 Hurricane Patty's - This can sometimes be one of my favorite gigs.  This week was pretty good.  We have great people show up to listen to our music. We sometimes try some different music.  And that's what makes it fun.  We would like to thank Tony-O for stopping by.

12-17-09 Eclipse Recording Studio - I was in for about an hour today.  Laid down two guitar tracks and scratch vocals for a couple of new tunes "A Better Place" and "Get Back in the Race".

12-17-09 Oasis - Frankie was not at the gig so Chris came down to help out.  He did a great job!  We did a new tune (Suite: Judy Blue Blue Eyes) for Susie.  It's good to be back at the Oasis.

12-18-09 Shaughnessy's Sports Grill - It was a good night.  A good place to see the acoustic trio.

12-19-09 Hoagy and Susie's Christmas Party - What a party!  Can't wait for next year!  Thank you guys for including us!  Everything was amazing as usual.

Another fine week!  Just a reminder to try to be kind to everyone you meet.  In these hard times it might be the best thing that happens to them all day!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 17, 2009

12-8-09 Hurricane Patty's - It was a good night!  We had Ed Pickett (Dave's brother) sit in on a few songs playing Mandolin.  Good job Pickett.

12-9-09 Eclipse (studio) - Dave and Ed were in the studio doing a song Dave wrote called "Love".  This might be the start of a Seiner's CD.  Wouldn't that be something...after 20 years!!!  All the songs are written for the next "Those Guys" CD and I have written enough material for my next 2 or 3 solo CD's.  Maybe it's time to write a few for me and Ed.  Writing is my true love.  Its' fun to write it one day and then hear everyone's' ideas go down on tracks, then mix it down to a song.  It's a beautiful thing.  That's why I do what I do!

12-11/12-09  McCharaters - We had a couple people sit in.  Todd sang and played a couple of tunes.  He rocked the house!!  Reg from Low Profile sang a Black Crowes tune (Talks to Angels).  Sounded great!  Saturday turned out great!  This place has got it all.  Great food!  Great staff! Great time!  Thanks!

12-14-09 Driftwood Bistro - Wayne and myself met Ed on Jekyll to try a new gig at the Driftwood Bistro.  Ed and Wayne both sounded great!  We had a good time!  It was good to see some ole friends.  I think this gig is going to get better and better.  Schedules for both me and Ed permitting, we will be doing a lot more of this idea.

There's a lot of music and writing going on right now.  I'm in heaven!  I'd like to thank all the great players and writers that are supporting me ant the music I write and co-write.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

December 7, 2009

12-1-09 Hurricane Patty's - It was yet another good start to the week.  Played a couple new tunes.

12-3-09 Barry's house - Did some writing, at least Barry did.  I don't think I put any words to paper.  Way to go Barry!

12-4-09 Black Cloud Saloon - We were supposed to be an acoustic 3 piece outside, but the weather would not permit it.  We had to move inside.  Playing acoustic on the big stage was not our first choice.  But, we ended up having a great time.  Thanks Lindsay and staff!  And thanks to our friends that showed up and helped us through the night.  Also two of the Swanky Mo's showed up (Mark and Kevin).

12-5-09 Private Party Julington Creek Boat Parade - Dave washed his directions that Walt had passed out.  And if not for Theresa's mistake in reading the start time. It might have been Dave's first time late to a gig in a long time.  But with Lydia's help on the phone and some blind luck, Dave made it.  The party was great!  Billy was terrific on drums!  The band sounded great!  It was a great night  Thanks Mike and Karen.  You guys sure know how to throw a party.

Over all a great week!  A lot of things are starting to happen that make my life a nice space to be in!  We'd like to thank all the people that believe in our music and support us a our gigs.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11-28-09 Wedding - Congratulations Carl and Michelle.  We had a great time!!  Thanks for making us a part of your special day!  Oliver you were a great host.  You did a good job singing also!!

It was nice to spend some time writing with Barry this week.  It's good to get together (not on stage) and just shoot the shit.  This is a business, but we are also friends, nobody is perfect, that's what makes us different, lets not forget that.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11-9-09 Fernandina (Jack & Diane's)  I was unable to make it to my songwriters meeting.  Was not feeling well.  I will be ready next month!

All in all, a busy, but great week!  Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and that's important.  There are a lot of unhappy people around these days because of the economy or for whatever reason.  People come to see us perform to be entertained and to take their mind off their worries.  That's our business and we did it well this week!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

10-20-09 Hurricane Patty's - Great start to the week.  Good crowd!  I was a little under the weather, but was able to get through the gig.

10-22-09 Oasis - Chris joined us for this gig.  Kind of a singers circle, each guy did a song in turn and everyone else backed him up.  This might turn out to be something interesting.  It works in other parts of the country, maybe it will work on the beach (St. Augustine).

This was a fun week, the later being more fun than the beginning.  Even when I'm having a terrible time, it's still what I love to do.  No audience or players can take that away from me.  Either of the above can make a night a little tougher, but will never take the love of music from me.  I have been on this earth 55 years and been performing 43 years.    Thanks for letting me entertain you.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All in all a very musical week.  It was great playing with the band and it was nice meeting some new writers.  It doesn't get much better than this.

9-17-09 Oasis - Had a great time!  Chris McVey stopped by and played for awhile. He sounded great!

9-18-09 Island Lounge Grille - It wasn't the warm friendly place I remember, but we did our job the best we could.  I am very proud of my band mates. And a little disappointed in the vibes and atmosphere of this venue this night.  When everybody works together in a positive way, it makes for a much better night. Maybe next time, if there is one.  The wait staff was real nice and Ski was great!  Thank guys you did the right thing!

9-19-09  Our Place! GREAT PEOPLE!  Boy, a breath of fresh air after last night!  Others could take some lessons from this place!  Well done guys!  Frankie was with family so Billy Annin sat in for the night.  Man you were awesome, "a well oiled machine", as Barry put it.  The Swanky Mo's (Mark, Kevin & Daryl) sat in with Walt.  They sounded great!  Over all a fantastic evening.  We would like to thank Terry Thomas from The Beach 92.7 FM for introducing us.

In closing, I had a great time this week playing with my friends.  That's the way it should be.  If you can't come to work and do the job you love, then you should start thinking about another occupation.  It's great to be playing music right now!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

September 15, 2009

9-8-09 Hurricane Patty's - It was a good start to the week.  We had our few regular folks and made some new friends too.  the crowd was a little off, as it is this time of year.  It still turned out nice.  Did a few originals that have sat in wait for a good while (Hard Way, Love is a Promise).

9-9-09 Casa Marina - A Hackers gig.  Walt injured his shoulder and could not make it.  Chris McVey showed up and did a great job.  As is everyone in the Hackers, hard working professional, although we were minus one, we got together and got the job done.  Good work everybody!

9-11/12-09 Tailgaters - This was a great weekend for the band.  Barry was out of town with his RPM gig, so Chris was there to cover.  He did a fantastic job.  We had a lot of guests sit in.  We had JR and Suzie Kite sing with us.  And then we had our great friend Gregg Chirico in the audience along with the bass player from Jim Graves new band.  Good weekend over all!

I sit back in thought about all these great and talented singers and players that we work and hang out with.  Some very special times.  These are the things I hold close as the years roll by.  I am very lucky to be spending time with each and everyone of these talented people.  It is a great inspiration for me.  I hope I have left a few memories with the rest of you guys.  You sure have left a few memories with me.  That being said, see you next week.  Lets have some more good times!!!!

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

11/28-29/08 A1A Ale Works - It was interesting.  Sometimes it can be kind of a different crowd at the A1A.  We fought our way through it for two days.  We played well, so we won.  The highlight of Saturday was a visit from Vijay Singh (#1 Golfer) and his friends hung out with us.  He was a nice guy and is now a proud owner of a Those Guys t-shirt.

Times are tough and we appreciate you spending what time you can with us.  Thanks!  Let's pray for better times.

A thought for the day:

Life's to short, don't be to hard on yourself, nobody's perfect.  The people I've known in my life that thought that they were perfect, were far from it.  Be kind, honest and work hard.  Wherever that takes you, you can be proud of how you got there.

see you down the road!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
